Pediatric Neurosurgery
Pediatric Neurosurgery
Pediatric neurosurgery is a unique specialty. Pediatric neurosurgeons have the opportunity to intervene in a developing nervous system and repair damage that will improve the patients’ future quality of life.
Several international studies have shown that pediatric neurosurgeons, given their subspecialization and experience, can offer better treatment for pediatric neurosurgical problems in comparison with general neurosurgeons. Pediatric neurosurgery is simply different, and its specialization must be carried out in large volume pediatric hospitals with the support of other similar pediatric subspecialties (anesthesia, intensive care, pediatric radiologists, neuropediatricians and pediatric orthopedists, among others).
The final objective is to always offer the best treatment and comprehensive care for pediatric patients with neurosurgical problems. In the Neurological Center we have a Staff of pediatric neurosurgeons who are specialized in the treatment of pathologies such as: hydrocephalus, congenital malformations, craniosynostosis, brain and spinal cord tumors, vascular anomalies, pediatric epilepsy, spasticity, etc.
We have an interdisciplinary group to provide children with high level care to restore their health; the Center equipment permit minimally invasive surgeries such as neuroendoscopy, stereotaxia and functional neurosurgery in order to correct disorders such as hydrocephalus, epilepsy and certain types of spinal cord and brain tumors.
