Cornea Transplant
Cornea Transplant
This involves substituting a sick cornea with a healthy one in order to restore the patient’s vision. For this procedure to be successful, the rest of the eye must be anatomically and functionally healthy. It may be performed through a short-stay surgery for the comfort of the patient and family members.
Once the transplant has been performed, there is a very high possibility of success, the risk of rejection is minimal and recovery is immediate, allowing the patient to resume normal activities after three days.
The Cornea Transplant Unit has a Cornea Bank of the type that receives organs although most of the corneas used come from cornea banks in the United States that comply with the strictest safety and control regulations in order to guarantee tissue quality.
